Reading the sensations when looking at the face of the person being typed, often, an understanding comes to us about the direction of movement of the lines of the face - do they tend upward or flow down? And do they move at all?
In the last article, we considered the absence of movement - statics, and today we'll talk about dynamics.
• Elastic line •
Similar to solidness, elasticity differs in volume. It is difficult to imagine an elastic face painted or statically captured in any other way - you want to cast it from latex or rubber in order to maintain mobility.
It reads tension, energy, enthusiasm, springiness and density, as if in front of us is not a man of flesh and blood, but a rubber doll, an inflatable toy or a helium balloon, a ripe tomato / cherry / grape.
The transfer of all these associations to the outside gives us recommendations on style: smooth “rubber” textures, elastic fabrics that hold their shape, voluminous cut details - puffed sleeves, flounces, contrast of volumes (tightened waist + fluffy skirt, as an example).
Emphasis on hypertrophied curves and prints that emphasize them: polka dots, large stripes, clear curls.
Hairstyles and haircuts are voluminous, rounded, dense, springy.
The aesthetics of the elastic line is difficult to find in nature, mainly man-made spaces - amusement parks, water parks, some modern architecture, fabulous cities and worlds. Inspiration can also be found in America in the 50s, cartoons, space fiction and the work of Tim Burton.
• Flexible line •
A flexible face can be outlined with confident arcuate lines or bent from wire. There is a tension in it, akin to a bow ready to be fired. A similar effect can be observed in women with a facelift - as if all the features tend to the back of the head. Not the best comparison, but indicative.
The character of the flexible line with a "pepper" and goes well with the stereotypical image of "femme fatale" - sensual, seductive, but dangerous.
A flexible line in style is: a sheath or anatomical cut, one-piece graceful lines with energetic curves, high tone contrast of color combinations or monotony, dense smooth fabrics, effective rounded cutouts (for example, a sweetheart neckline), metal fittings and accessories, smooth skin, hairstyles with a perfect wave, as well as smooth hairstyles without corners.
The dynamic of the flexible line can be found in the noir style (as well as in the retro Hollywood aesthetic), partly in the Dior new look style, in modern / futuristic art and architecture, in sandy canyons and quarries, as well as in the jungle space (wriggling lianas , snakes and tropical flowers).
• Aggressive line •
An aggressive face, like a hard one, can be drawn, only in this case the triangle will act as the main geometric figure - the aggressive line is swift, sweeping and ends with a sharp angle, like an arrow or any other piercing and cutting object.
Of course, the first association from such pressure is danger. But the owners of the leading aggressive line also exude bestial sexuality, determination and purposefulness.
Applied to the style, these associations can be expressed through rigid, shape-holding fabrics and styles, high tone contrast, elongated acute-angled cutouts and cut details - shoulder pads, lapels, smells, floors.
Smooth, lacquered and metallic textures of fabrics and accessories. Stiletto heel and pointed toe. Graphic charcoal styling and haircuts, similar makeup.
A figurative solution based on aggressive linearity can be found in impregnable mountain spiers, crystal caves, Gothic architecture, views of a modern big city, rebellious aesthetics, the aesthetics of predatory animals and birds, dangerous fantasy characters (sorcerers and witches, dragons, vampires, etc.)
