Relaxed facial lines: soft, flowing, languid

Reading the sensations when looking at the face of the person being typed, often, an understanding comes to us about the direction of movement of the lines of the face - do they tend upward or flow down? And do they move at all?

We have already considered statics and intense dynamics in previous articles, and this one will be devoted to the last category of lines - relaxed ones.

• Soft line •

A soft form-line is related to an elastic one, with the only difference that it lacks energy - it is inert and pliable, like a soft pillow, plush toy, cloud or modeling mass. Fingers are buried in a soft face during “mental palpation”, you want to stroke his cheek. Calling it flowing is not entirely correct, but the feeling of it is like a fluffy yeast dough in your hands, gently sliding down.

Associations with the word “soft” alone create a visual range of recommendations: fabrics are soft, lush, voluminous, loose, pile, as well as knitting and furs.

The textures are matte, fluffy, velvety.

Styles softly draped, rounded, relaxed, enveloping, voluminous (a lot of fabric), puffy sleeves with cuffs, "cocoon" style.

Accessories are rounded, voluminous, without clear lines.

Hairstyles and haircuts are airy, layered, lush.

Inspiration for the owners of a soft form can be found in nature - in flower buds, tree crowns, layers of lava flows, fur-bearing animals. In the man-made world, it manifests itself in tribal huts, knitted / sewn dolls, toys, cartoons, as well as in fairy / alien worlds.

• Flowing line •

The flowing line seems to have no end - the face consists of continuous, oval-shaped arcs, smoothly flowing into one another without any obstacles. In a flowing face, there are no lush volumes and coal geometry. It also does not have the dynamism of a flexible line - the amplitude of its movement is much lower, but it still has strength and density that distinguishes it from a sluggish one. Like in a stream of water or a peaceful hilly landscape.

In the style of a smooth line, any associations with a water flow work: flowing, but rather dense fabrics, matte and glossy textures (satin sheen);

flowing, figure-hugging styles, draperies, flounces, elongated rounded cutouts and details, A-line, flared hem, folds.

Smooth, streamlined accessories without clear geometry.

Wavy lines of hairstyles and haircuts.

Of course, nature is full of inspiration for a smooth line - the aforementioned serene hills, bends of rivers and waves in them, sandy coastlines, seascapes and underwater inhabitants, petals / foliage of flowers and plants. Also, the aesthetics of a smooth line is praised by the art nouveau (modern) style in architecture and art.

• Lanquid line •

Related smooth line, devoid of energy and density. Despite its dissonant name, the languid line is very touching and beautiful.

Thin, sagging, "lifeless", it is associated with romantic fading, decadence, melancholy, mystery, tenderness and sensuality, and facial features evoke a feeling of flowing, like warm honey or draping with a thin and soft fabric.

Withering in style can be expressed through thin, translucent, flowing fabrics (silk, chiffon, fine knitwear), complex colors and their nuanced combinations, as well as gradients; a fuzzy, extremely relaxed silhouette with draperies, “draining” (dropped shoulder, long sleeve, overlap), “disappearing”, uneven edges of clothing.

Drop-shaped accessories imitating downward movement, sagging. Loose hair, loose buns, layered haircuts.

The languid line is mainly inspired by autumn - “a dull time, the charm of the eyes”: withering gardens and forests, flowers and trees in them. In addition, the aesthetics of the lanquid line can be seen in the Greek sculpture and paintings of William Bouguereau.

This concludes the excursion into the main types of linearity, I hope that it turned out to be useful and inspiring for all seekers of personal style ♥

Thank you for your trust and see you next time!
